Officials said the woman's ex-husband entered the three-bedroom home and opened fire on her, her boyfriend, and three children, and then killed himself.

Authorities say five people died in a shooting Wednesday at a home in a rural town north of Fort Worth.

He declined to say just how many people were found dead in the home in Ponder, about 50 kilometres north of Fort Worth.

Hinojosa said he had no ages or identities of the dead and wounded. "Had I known the man was going to go in there and do that, I would have stopped".

A sixth person was taken to the hospital for treatment.

KXAS reported that the Ponder Volunteer Fire Department was called to investigate what was initially dispatched as a self-inflicted gunshot wound at 8:30 a.m.at a one-story brick residence in the 600 block of Lonestar Park Lane.

Shortly before they responded to the scene, firefighters learned there were multiple victims inside the home. Police did not release the names of the victims.

"I want to pray for the victims of the deceased family", Hinojosa said, according to the Dallas Morning News. Hinojosa said he didn't know her condition but he didn't think her wounds were life-threatening.

"It's sad", neighbor Mark Downing said Wednesday.
