Mikel Arteta is the strong favourite to succeed Arsène Wenger as manager at Arsenal, with productive talks having progressed between his camp and the club.

Mikel Arteta will hold talks with Arsenal on Thursday about becoming the club's new manager, according to report. With age also a factor, Arteta's idea could, on the other hand, seem appealing for Cazorla who could still contribute as a player as he could be a coach.

Arsenal do not have a manager at the moment after Arsene Wenger's departure, but that will not stop them from getting their first signing done in the upcoming summer.

"I left a lot of experience behind me, people who were with me like Steve Bould who has six years experience, and Jens Lehmann too".

After 22-years at the North London club Arsene had his last game in charge of Arsenal last Sunday beating Huddersfield 1-0.

The Spaniard, who has been working with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City for the previous two seasons, is the popular candidate of chief govt Ivan Gazidis and influential director Josh Kroenke, son of proprietor Stan.

Furthermore, it was reported that negotiations have entered an advanced stage with financial remuneration and the number of backroom staff already being discussed.

"If he decides to move because he has this offer, this option, I will not say you don't have to go", Guardiola said.

The former French Gunner has been linked with the vacant position at the Emirates but Vieira, now head coach of MLS side New York City FC, has apparently been left "disappointed" after being contacted by Arsenal.

They remain confident of naming a successor before the World Cup begins on 14 June.

He revealed last week he has some work to do in France early this week before returning to Arsenal's London Colney training centre to clear his desk.
