Oklahoma golf: Sooners remain in lead in NCAA Norman Regional


Greensboro, N.C. - The Farmingdale State men's golf team posted an opening score of 321 on the East Course at Grandover Resort in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships.

Lawrence completes the regional on Wednesday morning, with a 9:20 a.m. tee time to begin his third round.

Host team UCF and eighth-ranked Florida lead the 14-team field after shooting a 12-under par 276.

Junior Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) played his final seven holes at 1-under-par to finish the day with a 2-over 73. He is tied for second in both Par 3 scoring (3.00 avg./E Sc.) and Par 4 scoring (3.80 Avg./-2 Sc.) while also ranking in a tie for fourth in the field in birdies with four and second on the leaderboard in pars with 13.

The Georgia native is tied for 18th individually. Duke's Jake Shuman, with a 64 Tuesday, is tied for sixth place at 135 (-7) with Chun An Yu of Arizona State, who shot a second-round 70.

"I think we just got off to a very slow start with some tough conditions", MSU head coach Casey Lubahn said.

The other five regional tournaments are being conducted in Bryan, Texas (Traditions Club; Texas A&M, top seed); Columbus, Ohio (Scarlet Course/OSU Golf Course; Oklahoma State, top seed); Kissimmee, Fla. (The Reserve at Spanos Park; LSU, top seed).
