Microsoft receives a lot of criticism these days for its increased focus on the cloud and business customers, but it seems that the company remains very interested in the consumer market. The new tablets are expected to start at around $400, down from the $799 starting point of current Surface Pro models. According to the sources, Microsoft is planning to target the sub $500 market which is now dominated by Apple iPads. The report says that the new Surface will feature 10-inch screens, iPad-like rounded edges, and battery life closer to the iPad's promised 10 hours than the prior Surface claim of 13.5 hours.
Of course, along with a new Surface come updated accessories, and the new 10-inch form factor will see updates to the Surface keyboards, stylus and mouse at this size. Like previous Surface tablets, it will feature an integrated kickstand. Microsoft is said to be planning 64GB and 128GB models, and all configurations will run Windows 10 Pro. Bloomberg's report claims a new 10-inch Surface will be powered by Intel instead. Apple is the dominant player in the tablet market and makes iPads ranging from $329 in price all the way up to over a $1,000 with the iPad Pro.
