On Sunday, US National Security Adviser John Bolton threatened the European allies that Washington is prepared to impose sanctions on European companies if their governments refuse to heed Trump's demand to stop dealing with Iran.

Following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to exit the Iran nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA), Zarif has been conducting various diplomatic talks.

Zarif told the media after the meeting that he believed both sides were "on the right track" to ensure that the interests of the JCPOA's "remaining participants, particularly Iran, will be preserved and guaranteed".

Meanwhile, Lavrov said that Russian Federation and Europe had a duty to "jointly defend their legal interests" in terms of the Iran deal. The Iranian foreign Minister said that the conservation AGREEMENT and performance of all agreements is a major responsibility of all countries.

Khamenei said last week he was highly doubtful that Europe would provide the "real guarantees" needed for Iran to stay in the nuclear deal.

Zarif will be visiting China first, then Russian Federation.

Mohammad Javad Zarif's tour began two days after unprecedented Israeli strikes in Syria which a monitor said killed at least 11 Iranian fighters, triggering fears of a broader conflict between the two arch-enemies.

After meeting his Chinese counterpart on Sunday, Zarif said he was hopeful of forging a "clear future design" for the accord.

In a statement, foreign Minister Wang Yi says China is an important country in the agreement, and the country has done a lot of work to the conditions of the contract have been achieved and implemented.

"If the nuclear deal is to continue, the interests of the people of Iran must be assured", he added.

Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif sought further talks after failing to win any concrete assurance to help tackle the USA threat of economic sanctions over its nuclear program.

The accord lifted worldwide sanctions on Iran in 2016 in return for Tehran shutting down its capacity, under strict surveillance by the United Nations nuclear watchdog, to stockpile enriched uranium for a possible atomic bomb.

In the aftermath of Washington's pullout, Europeans are seeking ways to protect the interests of their firms doing business in Iran and help them escape the brunt of the upcoming United States sanctions. The JCPOA sets the balance of obligations between Iran, Europe and the United States, he said.

But while he talked up the prospect of renewed coordination with America's allies, another top aide reminded Europe its companies could face sanctions if they continue to do business with the Middle Eastern power.
