HTC Announces New Smartphone Powered by Blockchain Technology

The phone is called Exodus and it's being imaged as a phone that gives users the agency to "take back the internet", telling social media sites to "let my data go" and leaving individuals' information in literally their own hands, not in the centralized servers of Facebook and Google. Exodus will come equipped with its own universal wallet for managing various cryptocurrencies and special technology will allow it to run all sorts of decentralized apps. What this means is that all of you cryptotraders will have no problems managing your "money" and accessing it via all sorts of avenues. As part of a native blockchain created by HTC, the Exodus will be able to handle cryptocurrency trading among owners of the phone. If that doesn't get you Mr. Robot fanboys going, I don't know what will.

HTC's new blockchain initiative is being spearheaded by Phil Chen, who led the company's virtual reality headset platform HTC Vive.

"Through the Exodus, we are also excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more", Chen wrote in a blog post accompanying the announcement.

He added, "We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months, we'll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together".

HTC is hoping to change all that, as it told The Next Web that it's developing a new Android phone that will be powered by blockchain.

Arsenal star Alex Iwobi emotional after Arsene Wenger's last game
The former Arsenal midfielder, who is now a coach at Man City under Pep Guardiola, has emerged as the favourite to get the job. The Gunners finished sixth in the final Premier League standings which was the worst in the tenure of the Frenchman.

Exodus is expected in October. Moving forward, however, his new title will be "decentralized chief officer".

In addition to cryptocurrency manipulation, blockchain is touted for its ability to offer both better security and user experience by incorporating cold wallet storage - offline cryptocurrency storage - directly into the phone.

HTC isn't the first to tout a blockchain phone.

At its most basic level, blockchain is a digital ledger - it's commonly used as a record of cryptocurrencies and transactions made using that currency.
