Fox execs finally reveal why Brooklyn Nine-Nine was canceled

"Obviously I think everyone took a good hard look at the performance of Roseanne", Walden said. "It did so well and it certainly did remind us that we have a huge iconic comedy star in our fox family in Tim Allen". During Fox's up-fronts, Chairmen and CEO of Fox Television Group Dana Walden explained why the network chose to pick up the Tim Allen comedy a year after its cancellation. Fridays - the same time slot it occupied for five of six seasons before it was canceled last spring by ABC.

In other words, the Fox execs are moving the blame from themselves and saying that if we want to blame anyone for the initial cancellation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, blame Roseanne, Bob's Burgers and the NFL. "So once we made that decision, it just really limited the opportunities to schedule 'Brooklyn'".

For the first time, football will occupy all of Fox's Thursday-night schedule throughout the fall and early winter.

In a set-up to make people think he was talking about "This is Us", Meyers said that NBC is "home to the No. 1 drama on television, a show that each week gives us twists and turns, heartbreaking reveals and, this season, the departure of a once-beloved character". We tried to move Last Man Standing over past year when ABC decided not to move forward.

Notably, a year later, ABC found a hit in its reboot of "Rosanne", starring Roseanne Barr, who is both a supporter of President Trump and plays one on the show. It's a really amusing show ... Walden noted Last Man Standing delivered about 8 million viewers every week on ABC with the network giving the show minimal promotion (for all its critical acclaim Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it must be noted, was averaging less than 3 million viewers). Closing out Sunday nights will be the freshman multi-camera comedy Rel, inspired by the life of Lil Rel Howery (Get Out, Insecure, The Carmichael Show).

N. Korean delegation arrives in Beijing ahead of Trump-Kim summit
South Korea's presidential office launched a commission on May 3 to help implement a series of agreements reached at the summit. Doing so would strike "a critical blow to the core foundation of the North Korean power structure", he said.

Walden said they loved the series and cast, yet "ultimately, we felt like we didn't have the exact right place to schedule it this year". "We were emboldened by Roseanne".

"I'm not sure that I think that the cancellation had anything to do with politics", said Gary Newman, chairman and chief executive officer for Fox Television Group; he theorized that ABC was more interested in shows produced by its own studio. "Tim's personal politics are not a big feature of the show and if you were to talk to Time he would say [his character] is a centrist and the show never delved deeply into politics".

"It's a amusing show and audiences responded to it", he explained simply, saying now is the time to bring it back, after a season of dormancy, Fox having added Thursday Night Football to its arsenal.

The cancelation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine by Fox sent shockwaves across the internet, as fans of the wonderful comedy series took to the (virtual) streets in demand of its renewal.
