Violent protests in South Africa demand end to corruption


The North West Health Department told OFM News earlier this month it has sought national assistance to deliver essential medication to facilities in the province directly.

Shops have been looted, roads barricaded and vehicles set alight.

Ramaphosa called for calm, ordered police to exercise maximum restraint and urged the aggrieved parties to express their grievances without resorting to violence.

"To pay attention to the situation in the North West, the president has made a decision to cut short his participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London where he is leading a government delegation", a statement said.

Protesters from Top Village township can be seen blocking the main road leading into Mahikeng as they continue to call for the removal of Premier Supra Mahumapelo.

The President was scheduled to hold meetings with ANC leaders in the provincial capital Mahikeng on Friday, the BBC report quoted his office as saying.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg in London, Mr Ramaphosa said he was seeking $100bn in investment to help kick-start the economy.

The people of the North West deserve better than the ANC; the people of the North West deserve total change under a DA-led government which will always put them first by ensuring the delivery of quality services, the administration healthcare and a caring government.
