Syrian air defense systems have been activated in response to a missile attack apparently targeting Shayrat Airbase in Homs province, state media SANA reports.
The military announced at around 1.10am local time (11.10pm GMT) that it had fired missiles towards the Shay'rat Airbase, to the south-east of Homs, and its surrounding area in the Homs Governorate.
"None of the combined aircraft or missiles involved in this mission were successfully engaged by Syrian air defenses and there is no indication Russian air defense systems were deployed", EUCOM said in a press release. Meanwhile, the Al Mayadeen news outlet is claiming that all the projectiles were intercepted and inflicted no physical damage or casualties at the targeted Syrian base.
Syrian state-run television says Syria's air defenses have confronted a new "aggression", shooting down missiles over the area of Homs in the country's center.
No country has yet claimed the attack after midnight but US officials recently said that Washington wasn't planning another strike after the missile strike on Saturday.

Following reports of an Israeli strike, an Israeli military spokesman said: "I'm not aware of such an incident".
He said: "Video shows Missile launched against unknown Target in Far East Damascus countryside".
Asked about the missile attack, an Israeli military spokesman told Reuters, "We don't comment on such reports". Syria and its allies most recently accused Israel of launching a strike against Syria's T4 airbase in Homs, killing four Iranian military personnel.
Syria denied it was responsible for the attack, which killed at least 80 people.
