CBI to withdraw sections of the POCSO Act against Kuldeep Singh Sengar

Shashi Singh is the woman who allegedly lured the victim to the main accused MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on the day of crime. The victim's family had also alleged that the accused MLA's brother, Atul Singh Sengar, along with his companions also raped the girl and thrashed the victim's father on April 3 for refusing to withdraw the FIR lodged.

Woman Shashi Singh, who is accused of taking the girl to the legislator has also been arrested.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Income-Tax Commissioner (Guwahati) Swetabh Suman along with three others on graft charge.

Meanwhile, the gang-rape victim was produced before the special CBI Court in Lucknow.

Earlier, the victim, who along with her mother and uncle, were brought here under tight security in the morning, underwent tests at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. When asked when Sengar would be arrested, Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar told reporters here that the CBI would take a decision on this.

After a massive public outrage over the inaction of UP Police, the case was handed over to the CBI on April 12. The father of the victim later died in judicial custody.

The case was registered hours before the high court was to hear the matter, and so was the UP government's decision on transferring the case to the CBI late last night. According to the post-mortem examination report, he had suffered serious injuries. Despite several attempts, the victim failed to register a case.

However, in a new set of developments in the Unnao gangrape case, the medical certificate of the girl dating back to June 22, 2017, claims she was 19 years old when the alleged crime took place, hence challenging a key aspect of the case - that she was a minor.
