Rob Gronkowski will not attend start of offseason program, per report

After not shooting down reports that he could stepping away from football after Super Bowl LII, the Patriots tight end will not report to the beginning of New England's offseason program Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Patriots restructured Gronkowski's contract before the 2017 season to add a number of incentives, which the tight end reached during that season.

"We have the voluntary offseason program that starts on Monday", Patriots coach Bill Belichick said last week. I'm going to sit down the next couple of weeks and see where I'm at."Still, Gronkowski's potential absence from voluntary workouts doesn't necessarily mean the All-Pro tight end intends to hang up his cleats quite yet".

We're super happy but there's still so much work to be done before this squad's full potential is unlocked. There have been a lot more good days for the Red side but today it is for the Blue.

Gronkowski's absence from the offseason program adds to his odd offseason. There yet to be any clear indication of whether Gronkowski will return to action for the 2018 campaign.

Belichick didn't seem too anxious about the absence of Gronkowski or Brady, noting that players miss the offseason program due to prior commitments every season.

Gronkowski reportedly grew exhausted of the "high-strung" culture within the Patriots organization. He was also a force in the playoffs, catching three scores in three games.
