Another Kathua? Surat minor held captive, brutalized, raped, killed


In the brutal rape and murder of an unidentified minor girl, the Surat police station has transferred the case to CBI.

Days earlier, a 19-year-old Jamshedpur boy was arrested for slashing his five-year-old cousin's throat for resisting his rape attempts.

The girl has not been identified and nobody has come forward to claim the body. According to doctors, there were at least 86 injury marks on her body and according to autopsy reports, there were severe injuries to the girl's private parts caused by a blunt object.

The Gujarat Police had announced an award of Rs 20,000 for providing any information about the girl.

In Kathua, an eight-year-old girl from the nomadic Bakerwal community had gone missing from near her house on January 10 and a week later, her body was found in the same area. "We are trying to establish the identity of the girl", NDTV quoted police officer BK Jhala as saying.

"Going by the nature of the injuries, they seem to be caused in the period ranging from one week to one day prior to the recovery of the body, suggesting that the girl might have been held captive, tortured and possibly raped", said Dr Govekar, in an interview to PTI.

He said that a case of rape has been registered and also booked the unidentified accused under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Commenting on the recent Unnao and Kathua cases, PM Narendra Modi said, "As a country, as a society, we are ashamed of (such incidents)".

Till Sunday evening Gujarat police have seen 8,000 pictures to missing girls in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

The incident has been reported from Gujarat's Surat's Bhestan city where another innocent was abducted, brutally raped, and murdered, left in the cricket field. According to Surat police commissioner Satish Sharma, now the police would widen investigation in other States also. The minister assured that the perpetrators of the gruesome crime would not be spared. "Our daughters will definitely get justice", he added. He died on Monday, while in police custody. "Police have no info about her family".
