Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding contracts "revoked" by Irish Rugby Football Union

Just a day after the IRFU and Ulster Rugby announced that they had revoked the contracts of both Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding comes news that Jackson has already been in talks to sign with another club.

A statement from the Irish Rugby Football Union and Ulster Rugby is anticipated on Saturday, the Press Association understands.

A divide will persist between those who applaud the union's directness and those who believe that as they were acquitted, and as those offensive messages were initially private, they deserved the chance to renew their careers.

In late March, the pair were found not guilty of rape and sexual assault of a young woman after a lengthy trial in Belfast. It is therefore with great sadness and regret but with many cherished memories that I leave that behind.

It said: "It is with regret that I have been informed that the IRFU have made a decision to revoke my contract". I very much wished to continue to have the opportunity to represent them.

"I said outside court that the Stuart Olding that you read about in the trial is not the real Stuart Olding".

Campaigners calling for Jackson and Olding to be axed took out a prominent newspaper advert last week.

The IRFU also suspended Irish national player Craig Gilroy until April 26 following a review of a text message he sent.
