Mehbooba assures no obstruction of justice in Kathua rape case


"During communication the Madam CM told BJP leadership that when I can sack Haseeb Drabu over public outrage, what makes you to stop disqualify the Lal Singh and Ganga involved in lending helping hand to accused", a top source in PDP said here.

"The unflinching resolve for ensuring justice in this heinous crime will go a long way in restoring people's confidence in the institutions and reinforcing the sense of justice in J&K", she said.

"The BJP wants justice for the victim and there are no two opinions on that". Some BJP backed supporters are trying to defend the rapists demanding transfer of case from Crime Branch to CBI.

After the meeting, Works Minister and senior PDP leader Naeem Ahkar, who is also the government spokesperson, "appreciated" the BJP support in the handling of the case which had caused fissures in the alliance.

Sources said that in their resignation letters, sources said, Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga stated that they were offering resignations to the State party president as they felt that image of the party has been dented by the propaganda unleashed against them.

He was responding to tweets by a journalist from a TV channel in which she had said that during her meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Mehbooba had expressed displeasure over the BJP ministers' actions with regard to the case.

"We appreciate our alliance partner who helped us in this case".

"What rubbish! They are HER ministers, not the Hon (ourable) PM's".

Asked whether a dent has been created in the alliance after the Kathua case, Madhav said, "As far as this case is concerned, we have done our bit by allaying the fears and misconception created in the minds of not only the people of Jammu and Kashmir but also in the entire country by asking our two ministers to resign". A special investigation team, formed to probe the incident, has arrested eight people, including two special police officers (SPOs) and a head constable, who was charged with destroying evidence. She was abducted on January 10 and was later strangled to death on January 14.

The rape and killing of the girl, who belonged to the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community, has become a national issue.
