Allen Hurns says thank you to Jaguars

The move is somewhat surprising as the Jaguars picked up the veteran's contract option for this season just a few weeks ago.

The Jaguars re-signed receiver Marqise Lee, who has 119 catches over two seasons, and signed free-agent receiver Donte Moncrief last week.

Before the move was announced, Lewis told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he got the news from his agent and feels "disrespected" by the timing. And today, the Jaguars released him into what should be a busy market for the still-young, formerly undrafted receiver.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a decision to cut ties with wide receiver Allen Hurns. Also, former Jaguars offensive coordinator Greg Olson now holds the same position with the Oakland Raiders.

Lewis thought his spot was safe, even after Jacksonville signed Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Niles Paul last week.

"I wish they would have done it sooner", he said. However, many expected that Lewis would retain a roster spot as the Jaguars looked to make the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time in Lewis' career. "I think I deserved a little better than this". He will leave Jacksonville with 375 receptions for 4,502 yards and 33 touchdowns under his belt. Hurns missed five games in 2016 and played in only 10 games in 2017, largely because of an ankle injury.

As for Hurns, the 26-year-old spent his first four seasons in the National Football League with the Jaguars, but his inability to stay healthy over the past two years have certainly played a role in Jacksonville's decision to cut him loose.
