Study ranks Boone County in top 10 healthiest counties in Missouri


Holmes, Coahoma and Quitman were ranked as the least healthy counties.

St. John's has held the title of the healthiest county since 2014, rated No. 1 in both health factors and health outcomes. It's the eighth year in a row that Beaufort County topped the list. But the county's rank of 83 percent of ninth-graders who graduate within four years is far below the rate of 95 percent for top-performing counties.

Chris Tilden, community health director with the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, said the department has looked closely at these disparities but has had difficulty because of sample sizes.

Health factors, a measure of a county's health behaviors, clinical care, socioeconomic factors and physical environment, show more scattershot county results.

"We know that health is influenced by many factors, and while we have made great strides, there are still gaps we must address", explains Dr. Marissa J. Levine, the State Health Commissioner.

"We will continue to work with our community partners to achieve a caring and inclusive community where everyone can achieve their optimum well-being", Browning said.

That's up one spot from previous year when the county was ranked number 33.

That's compared to 20 percent in Jackson County, 16 percent in Eaton County and 10 percent of Clinton County kids are living below the poverty level.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has released their annual findings. Low birth-weight is a key indicator of overall health status in communities.

Sonoma County's overall health ranking has fallen to No. 7 in the state, down two places from a year ago in an annual survey of health in California. UW Population Health Institute.

The foundation examines health outcomes, access to medical care and socioeconomic factors such as child poverty rates and single-parent households. "For example, while it's 11 percent overall, it's 53 percent of black children live in poverty".
