Vikings come to terms with Kirk Cousins

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted that Cousins and his agent will meet with the Vikings brass for dinner Wednesday night, and then visit the team's new Eagan facility Thursday.

In three years as the starter in Washington, Cousins threw for 13,176 yards, 81 touchdowns and 36 interceptions while completing 67 percent of his passes.

Cousins' new contract can not become official until Wednesday, when the NFL's free agency period begins.

The landmark deal will make Cousins the highest-paid quarterback in the league. When injuries and other factors led to Griffin leaving Washington, Cousins became the full-time starter.

Soon, Kirk Cousins' ties to the Washington Redskins will be a thing of the past. Green Bay has the same Super Bowl odds as Minnesota with the quarterback expected to be completely healthy at the start of the 2018 season.

Case Keenum - who quarterbacked the Vikings to an NFC North title in 2017 - is set to sign with the Broncos in free agency.

Much can happen, of course, and the Vikings seem to have a penchant for signing quarterbacks whose knees are one awkward step from exploding, but Spielman has made the bold purchase at the right time.

The Jets' pursuit of Bridgewater comes hours after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Cousins, New York's top target, plans to sign a three-year deal with the Vikings. They only had Bryce Petty and Joel Stave under contract, meaning NY will likely want to find one more body for competition or depth. But I sure hope Cousins is coming at a cap friendly number and the Vikings can drop him in behind the wheel of already purring Mercedes and light it up. Neither, too, can Keenum's connection to Gary Kubiak, an advisor for the Broncos.

Keenum is a player the Broncos know well because Kubiak, now the Broncos' senior personnel adviser, coached him for two seasons while he was head coach of the Houston Texans. After the 2016 season, he was named to his first Pro Bowl. However, given the nature of quarterback play in the National Football League, the contract is more a matter of timing than anything else. It's been assumed all along that Brees will re-sign with the Saints, but now that we've reached the legal tampering window without an extension announced, there at least exists the possibility that the 39-year-old could be on the move.
