Serena Williams ousted from Indian Wells by sister Venus

The sisters first played each other competitively at the Australian Open way back in 1998, with Venus triumphing in straight sets.

Venus Williams got the better of her younger sister Serena to make it through to the fourth round at Indian Wells with a 6-3, 6-4 win, ending Serena's comeback.

Venus closed out the 29th career meeting between the two on her second match point as Serena sailed a forehand long to end the third round match.

The fans' reaction in California came after Venus pulled out of her semifinal with Serena just before the tussle, citing a knee injury. "She just did everything great".

But Serena says she did not watch a single point on the grounds she gets too nervous. "It nearly doesn't matter, but it would just be awesome to see her do it now".

Despite some nerviness and almost squandering a double break lead in the second set, Venus closed it out what was a relatively routine victory. I really abhor every time we play, but I do enjoy the battle when I'm out there. Just when it looked Serena will pave her way back, Venus did not let her.
