The state government on Friday suspended the mass burial of fresh victims of suspected herdsmen attack in the state.

"Your Excellency, we plead with you to take steps to reduce the sufferings of these over 170,000 countrymen in the eight internally displaced camps".

We wanted the President to know the magnitude of the senseless killings in our communities, but security men, including the police, drove us away and seized some of our placards.

The visit is part of the President's "condolence tour" of states affected by recent terrorist attacks, criminal activities and communal clashes in 2018.

He disclosed that he even shared the IGP's security report on the Benue crisis with Senators George Akume and Barnabas Gemade from the state.

Implementing the law has been controversial as the herdsmen have vowed to resist it.
