Trump Lashes Out Over Russia Probe, Attacks FBI Over Florida Shooting

Chris Coons (D-DE) discussed special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian Federation meddling in the 2016 presidential election and said President Donald Trump was "failing to act to protect our democracy".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions later ordered a review of the Justice Department's processes in the wake of the shooting.

The FBI had, earlier, admitted that it failed to act on a tip-off about the suspected shooter Nikolas Cruz, who confessed to the shooting.

That tip should have been "assessed as a potential threat to life" and forwarded to the bureau's Miami field office for investigation, but "these protocols were not followed", the FBI said.

Gonzalez said mental health - a factor Trump and other authorities had pointed to in their responses to the shooting - was not the main problem; she blamed Florida's lenient gun laws, under which the teenage shooter legally purchased his weapon.

Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray, who is now facing calls from Republicans to resign, said: "We have spoken with victims and families, and deeply regret the additional pain this causes all those affected by this horrific tragedy".

Yarmuth responded simply calling Trump "a disgrace".

And in just one 280 character tweet late Saturday night, he managed to conflate the two biggest national news stories of the week - Russian election interference and the Florida tragedy.

Turnbull says coalition ties `very strong' amid sex-scandal rift
The two-party-preferred vote has returned the coalition to the position it held in December trailing Labor 53 to 47. The comments were seen as a thinly veiled call for the National Party leader to resign from the cabinet.

Trump is staunchly opposed to additional restrictions on guns or gun ownership, but Vice-President Mike Pence said at an event in Dallas the president would make school safety "a top priority" when he meets with governors of USA states in the coming days. "This is not acceptable", Trump said in a Tweet shortly after 11 p.m. "Wasn't I a great candidate?" he asked, presumably rhetorically.

Democrats in Congress said the indictments validate their concerns about Russia's involvement in the presidential election.

The indictment did not address whether anyone from the Trump campaign coordinated or worked with Russians.

On Sunday morning, Trump denied ever dismissing the Russian Federation investigation in another tweet.

The FBI charges Donald Trump with the responsibility for the massacre at Florida School by posting to a twitter in which he accuses the service of failing to "read" the warning signs sent by the offender.

"This is a president who claims vindication anytime someone sneezes", Schiff said.

Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said, "This is the criminal conspiracy". And the president sent another later in the day, saying Russians are probably "laughing their asses off in Moscow".
