Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an opponent of the deal, said Sunday that if the US refuses to keep approving the deal "I think they'll do nothing".
He said: "I can assure that if Iran's interests are not secured, Iran will respond, will respond seriously and I believe it would be a response that means people would be sorry for taking the erroneous action they did".
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly described the JCPOA, which was negotiated under his predecessor Barack Obama, as "the worst and most one-sided transaction Washington has ever entered into", a characterization he often used during his presidential campaign, and threatened to tear it up.
Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says it is "absolutely critical" to make sure that world powers' nuclear agreement with Iran survives.
Zarif said that "we will not be the first ones to violate" the agreement. "It's not a better place".
"The problem is the waters have been muddied because of this credibility issue about America's willingness to live up to any deal", he said.
Kerry said it was "fundamentally not accurate" that Iran could obtain a nuclear weapon within the 15-year period until the deal ends.
"The world has to extract a price from Iran for its aggressive behavior", he added.

But Iran's Mohammad Javad Zarif told the Munich Security Conference that was "delusional thinking".
It then released a grainy footage allegedly showing the downing of an Iranian drone by an Israeli attack helicopter and subsequent airstrikes on Syria, during which the regime had at least one F-16 warplane shot down.
"Mr. Zarif, do you recognize this?"
The arrests came just days after police said there were grounds to indict Netanyahu for bribery, fraud and breach of public trust, in the biggest challenge yet to the right-wing leader's long tenure in power.
"Claims about the flight of an Iranian drone ... are too ridiculous to be addressed because the Islamic Republic of Iran has advisory presence in Syria at the request of the country's legitimate and constitutional government", Qassemi said.
Zarif also said that the loss of a fighter jet by Israel during the latest flare-up on the Syrian border tarnished the image of invincibility the Israeli military has.
Netanyahu told the audience that destroying the drone was a demonstration of Israel's resolve.
Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran. "We acted together on a single frontier, and we advise our American friends not to leave the joint plan, but to cooperate in order to prevent Iran's growing influence in the region", Gabriel said addressing the Munich Security Conference.
Lebanese Defense Minister Yaacoub Sarraf accused Israel of being hypocritical, saying that he'd had "an Israeli drone above my head for the past 15 years" and warning about any aggression from its neighbor.
