In terms of criminal background, 11 out of the 31 CMs were found with criminal cases registered against them. On the other end of the spectrum is Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar of CPI (M) with assets of Rs 26 lakh.

Eleven out of a total of 31 Chief Ministers of various states and union territories (UTs) in India have criminal cases against them, an analysis of their self-sworn affidavits furnished during the assembly elections has revealed.

Apart from financial assets, the ADR study also analyzed the number of cases registered against the respective CMs.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has two charges related to Abetment of such assault, if the assault is committed (IPC Section-134), one charge related to voluntarily causing hurt by unsafe weapons or means (IPC Section-324).

The Chief Minister also asked to take the help of the state "Drone Corporation" to picturise the development of the work and show the images to him once in every 15 days.

Uttar Pradesh's Adityanath has only four criminal cases against him but the charges include injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult, rioting and trespassing burial grounds.

As per educational qualifications, 10% of the 31 CMs are 12th pass, 39% graduate, 32% graduate professional, 16% postgraduate and 3% doctorate.
