After capturing his third Olympic gold medal with the run of his career to overtake Japan's Ayumu Hirano in the men's halfpipe, White said not only does he plan to compete at the next Winter Games in 2022 in Beijing, he is also seriously considering entering the inaugural skateboarding event at the next Summer Games in Tokyo in 2020. In an epic final run he sealed the deal with a score of 97.75 and his third Olympic gold medal.

While White was already safely in Wednesday's final, he did not play it safe on his second run, topping both Harano and James with a near-perfect 98.50.

Ayumu Hirano of Japan might be the biggest threat after winning the 2018 X Games gold medal in the SuperPipe.

In order to win gold this year, White would need to land that trick, plus an additional 1440 right before it.

Shaun White has apologized for referring to a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him as "gossip" during a news conference at the Olympics. In the Team USA history book, his three gold medals put him second to short track speedskater Bonnie Blair and long track speedskater Eric Heiden, who holds the record with five apiece.

But 31-year-old White - nicknamed the Flying Tomato after his trademark red hair - became the first snowboarder to scoop three Olympic titles with a stunning performance.

When asked for clarity and if he thought the allegations were gossip, White said he felt he had addressed the question.

"I did the same trick that I fell on but I won the gold medal and it was all worth it".
