First Grade Teacher Fired for Marrying the Love of Her Life

According to news.com.au, Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School Year 1 teacher, Jocelyn Morffi, worked at the school in Miami, US, for seven years until her employment was terminated on Thursday.

In an Instagram post, Morffi said, "In their eyes I'm not the right kind of Catholic for my choice in partner".

Parents received news of her termination in a letter from the school, which read in part, "Today a hard and necessary decision has been made regarding Ms. Jocelyn Morffi, our first grade teacher".

One parent, Samantha Mills, who had a child who was in Morffi's class past year said: 'This teacher in particular has made such a contribution to the school. They described Ms Morffi as a "great teacher" and said the school administration hadn't offered a satisfactory explanation as to why she was sacked.

"I'm upset", parent Christina Lopez told WPLG. Peter and Paul Catholic School say they are fighting for the reinstatement of a woman who didn't just teach their children to read and right, but also ran a volunteer organization called #teachHope70x7 that enlisted students to distribute meals to the homeless on weekends. Miami Archdiocese spokeswoman Mary Ross Agosta confirmed Morffi lost her job, but only advised that she "violated her contract".

The principal spoke to each of the parents individually but would not give them a reason for the firing, Cini said.

On Friday morning, a group of about 20 parents gathered at the school demanding an explanation from its principal, the Miami Herald reported.

A popular teacher at a Miami Catholic school has been fired after posting pictures of her wedding online.

"We were extremely livid", Cintia Cini, a parent told the Herald.

Another mom, Samantha Mills, said several teachers who attended Hass and Morffi's wedding were concerned about retaliation.

Ms Morffi is considering legal action, according to her lawyer.

'As a teacher in a Catholic school their responsibility is partly for the spiritual growth of the children, ' Agosta said.

She just minded that Morffi was "by a long shot a standout amongst other instructors out there".

"This educator specifically has made such a commitment to the school".

Ricardo Oviedo, another parent of a child in Ms Morffi's class, said "she maintained a high moral standard at school and was inscribing in our kids a sense of community and love". One parent even considered withdrawing her child from the school in light of recent developments, the Miami Herald reported.

Morffi took to Facebook to express her disappointment.

"When they sign the contract, the agreement is to follow policies, procedures and teachings of the Catholic Church". She never imposes her personal beliefs on others.
