Second White House staffer resigns amid abuse allegation

According to the New York Times, President Donald Trump shot down recent reports that he has grown increasingly exasperated with his communications director over her handling of the White House's response to domestic abuse allegations against former aide Rob Porter.

President Trump appeared to weigh in on the resignation of two White House staffers accused of domestic abuse Saturday, bemoaning that lives are being destroyed by "a mere allegation". She claims that in that time, he "ran a vehicle over her foot, put out a cigarette on her hand, [and] threw her into a wall", among other abuses.

Mr Sorensen alleged that Ms Corbett punched him multiple times and once grabbed the steering wheel while he was driving on a highway.

As for "no recovery for someone falsely accused" - and that "life and career are gone" - Trump ignores his rise to the presidency and a new political career in the wake of his own sexual harassment and abuse allegations, which he says are false.

In his first public comments on the matter, Mr Trump wished former staff secretary Rob Porter well but failed to mention his ex-wives, Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby. Corbett told The Washington Post that Sorensen had run a vehicle over her foot, burned her hand with a cigarette, thrown her into a wall, and grabbed her by her hair while they were in their boat off the coast of Maine.

In the statement issued by Kelly and in-part written by Hicks, the two defend Porter as "a man of true integrity".

"He did a very good job when he was in the White House and we hope he has a wonderful career and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him", the president said.

White House officials said they learned of the allegations on Thursday night and Sorensen resigned Friday.

"I can't say enough good things about him", Kelly wrote.

It came shortly after Donald Trump drew criticism for praising another staffer who quit his administration amid similar claims from two of his ex-wives.

In a statement White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders read to reporters Wednesday, Porter called his ex-wives' claims "outrageous" and "simply false". "There is no place for domestic violence in our society". On Friday, he made a weird statement of support for his former staff secretary Rob Porter, wishing him well and emphasizing that Porter had denied any wrongdoing. "But it was very sad when we heard about it and certainly he's also very sad now".
