Their firing "was just one of those unfortunate things", she stated. He went by Ronny Howard in those days, and he first heard about Star Wars on the set of American Graffiti when it still just an idea popping around George Lucas' head.

LucasArts took that one step forward, allowing fans to "wield" lightsabers in battle and, of course, dance their assorted hearts out to brand new songs that were all inspired by the Star Wars franchise.

Now the Star Wars boss has given clarifications regarding why she had to make the decision to replace them with Ron Howard.

There seemed to be a delay on the film, after Howard's principal photography didn't wrap until October - four months after he started, and only seven months prior to the film's scheduled release date.

She added: "I just say over and over again that, yes, it was an incredibly hard decision that we had to make and obviously it was pretty late in the game, which shows we spent a lot of time trying not to have to make that decision".

"I wasn't aware it had divided opinion but all movies divide opinion - some people will like it, some people won't". Keep an eye out for it when Solo: A Star Wars Story opens on May 25th! And there it was.

Speaking with EW in an extensive piece that chronicled the tumultuous production of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recalled a set visit from George Lucas around the time he picked up production. But he ended up getting some help. Those are wise words indeed, and Howard took them to heart. I could understand why you'd ask, and some might even be curious, but look, everybody who has been involved in this has done nothing but love what this movie could be, and that's been the vibe around it. I know he kind of fundamentally feels like, first and foremost, [these films are] sort of for 12-year-old boys, and yet even he knows that it's grown so far beyond that, and the fans have grown with the series in a great, important way.

According to a profile of Howard in Entertainment Weekly, Lucas showed up on set and "didn't offer a lot of advice except, 'You'll get this, '" Howard said.

So it's basically "Use the Force, Ron".

"He had meant to just kind of stop by and say hi, and he stayed five hours", [Kathleen] Kennedy says.
