Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson dies at 48 years of age

The Icelandic composer died yesterday at home in Berlin.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, and is being investigated.

Jóhannsson was a member of the band Apparat Organ Quartet and a founder of the Kitchen Motors movement.

Johann was responsible for composing for films including The Theory of Everything, Arrival and Sicario.

Largely self-taught as a musician, Johannsson took inspiration from the French Oulipo school of writers such as Georges Perec, aiming to stir up fresh ideas by imposing constraining rules on their compositions. "May his music continue to inspire us".

His first album, Englaborn, was released in 2002, followed by Viroulegu Forsetar in 2004, IBM 1401, A User's Manual in 2006, Fordlandia in 2008, and Orphee in 2016. He is survived by his daughter, parents and three sisters.
