Sixers GM: No timeline for Fultz (shoulder) to return

Markelle Fultz's rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers continues to unfold like some sort of basketball nightmare.

"Mental preparedness and overcoming an injury is part of any athlete, especially an elite athlete, overcoming a debilitating injury", Colangelo said.

Per Colangelo, Fultz's shooting woes remain a mystery, his current range is "within the paint" and his return is entirely indefinite. Former general manager Sam Hinkie's "process" has finally yielded results, with Joel Embiid (23.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game) and Ben Simmons (16.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game) healthy and leading the charge to an above.500 record entering Friday's action.

Fultz had been mired with a Shaq-like form at the free-throw line, completely different than what his usual form looked like during his lone year at the University of Washington.

Even more bizarrely, Colangelo flat-out admitted the team did not know when Fultz would play again.

Colengelo said, "There's always a chance that he's going to be out there soon, and there's a chance that he's not gonna play this year".

"He's doing some things on the basketball court, in the limited basketball activity that he's taking place in, that he's participating in, and he's dazzling in many ways", Colangelo said.

The hedging around Fultz's status comes as a surprise given that he appeared on track to return soon.

Per Derek Bodner of The Athletic, the Sixers still don't know if Fultz's changed shooting mechanic caused the injury or if his injury caused him to change his shot mechanics.

He was ruled out indefinitely in October with soreness and a scapular muscle imbalance in the shoulder.

"We hope to see [Fultz] this year". "That's going to be a determination that's made at some point in the future".
