Robots take center stage at PyeongChang games


Two players from the joint Korean women's hockey team carried the Olympic flame together during the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Games on Friday.

The 2018 Winter Olympics is underway in South Korea, and for the first time in history North Korea and South Korea are competing under a neutral flag.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un's sister, making an unprecedented visit to South Korean soil, will now likely attend the same opening ceremony as US Vice President Mike Pence, who's vowing toughest-ever sanctions on the North.

Before the ceremony, South Korean officials released a statement from President Moon Jae-in.

Kim's sister, Kim Yo Jong, was at the opening ceremony with North Korea's nominal head of state, 90-year-old Kim Yong Nam.

IOC president Thomas Bach told the crowd on the live broadcast that "this is the moment that we have all been waiting for: The first Olympic games on snow and ice in the Republic of Korea".

NBC: Primetime coverage begins February 8 - a day before the opening ceremony - with figure skating, skiing and ski jumping.
