Cops: Man spanked stranger's son, 2, in grocery store


A Georgia man is behind bars after police say he spanked a stranger's child while in the checkout line of a Kroger store.

After he was cleared by Piedmont Newnan Hospital staff, Martinez was arrested on multiple charges, including simple battery, child cruelty, disorderly conduct, obstructing officers and violating probation, according to jail records. "I was shocked. I was astonished", Logan Morris, the father of the boy, told WSB-TV.

According to 11 Alive, the two-year-old boy was asking his father for a lolly. Before he knew it, Martinez slapped his son on the top of his hand, grabbed his arm, turned him around and spanked him three times.

"He told my son, 'This is what we do to kids in Mexico, '" Morris told The Newnan Times-Herald. "I was blown away by the situation". They also reported that his speech was slurred.

Martinez is no longer welcome at the grocery store. When police were finally able to get him in a patrol auto, Martinez began kicking the doors and windows, according to the report. An ambulance crew was eventually called. When Morris said no, the child began crying. "I didn't want to start something and have him get hurt in the process", Lott said, according to 11 Alive.

The store has banned him from coming back.
