Suspected Toronto serial killer facing three new murder charges

McArthur was previously charged in the presumed deaths of Selim Esen and Andrew Kinsman, both reported missing from the Church and Wellesley streets area at separate times a year ago. He's an alleged serial killer and he's taken some steps to cover his tracks'. Five months later, police charged McArthur with Esen's presumed death.

Members of Toronto's gay community were pushing for answers past year in light of the disappearances of Esen and Kinsman.

"It's frightful to think of this happening in any neighbourhood", she said. Another sister, Patricia Kinsman, remembered him for his tie-dye shirts.

Esen was reported missing in April past year.

Following outcry from the gay community, police formed a task force named Project Prism to look into the disappearances.

When McArthur's arrest was first announced, Det. Stg. Lisowisk was never reported missing to police.

"We do believe there are more (victims) and I have no idea how many more there are going to be". All three were known to spend time in the Village.

The probe ran from November 2012 until April 2014 and looked at Kayhan's disappearance as well as those of Skanda Navaratnam, 40, who last seen near Church and Wellesley on September 6, 2010; and Abdulbasir Faizi, 42, who was reported missing on December 29, 2010 and was last seen in the same area.

Forensic experts have yet to identify the remains, Idsinga said. "He was an occupant of the shelter system in Toronto", Idsinga said. "It encompasses the City of Toronto", Idsinga said. "We'll lay more charges as we get them". "When people stop coming, it's not unusual for us".

Mahmudi and Lisowick did not fit the profile of some of the other men who were reported missing - Middle Eastern men known to frequent Toronto's gay village area. Sgt. Hank Idsinga said at a news conference Monday.

Toronto's LGBT community had raised concerns for months about a series of disappearances around the Village. Police believe he was murdered between May 2016 and July 2017.

He was last definitively seen on March 20, 2017, but there have been reports that he was also observed by a member of the community as late as April 14. Kinsman was reported missing in June. A new investigation launched last August led to McArthur's arrest.

Police have not said what, if any, evidence was retrieved during those searches. He denies that there is evidence suggesting a serial killer is walking the streets of Toronto.

Police discovered the dismembered remains of at least three men in planters behind this home, where McArthur stored his landscaping equipment.

January 18, 2018 - McArthur is arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Esen and Kinsman.

And police believe there are more victims.

McArthur's next court appearance is set for February 14.

Idsinga said McArthur has now also been charged in the deaths of 58-year-old Majeed Kayhan, 50-year-old Soroush Marmudi and 47-year-old Dean Lisowick.
