Shutdown continues into work week as Senate talks drag on

The federal government entered the second day of a shutdown Sunday.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders has accused Democrats of trying to use the row to distract from President Trump's achievements on his one-year anniversary in the job.

The US Government has shut down and, predictably, the media has piled into Donald Trump with talk of chaos and confusion at the sharp end of American politics.

"Negotiating with this White House is like negotiating with Jell-O - it's next to impossible", Schumer said, suggesting that Trump's own wishes are frequently derailed by immigration hard-liners like chief of staff John Kelly, senior adviser Stephen Miller or GOP Sen.

Members of both parties, including the President, had spent days trading blame for the shutdown.

But Mr Trump said the "nuclear option" of a simple-majority vote was necessary.

Appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation", Ryan says good-faith negotiations on an immigration deal are taking place, though Democrats take issue with that assessment. The measure now goes to President Trump Monday night for his signature, enabling the government to reopen for business Tuesday morning.

The Senate vote was 81-18 - well above the 60 votes needed.

Trump ended the DACA program, which provides legal protections to about 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children, in the fall.

Francis ordered the Vatican to appoint an administrator to run the society, Sodalitium Christianae Vitae, a week before his trip. I would say "evidence.' In Barros" case, it was studied. 'There is not one shred of proof against him. "It's all calumny.

Mick Mulvaney, OMB director, says DACA talks won't resume till shutdown ends
You can't do that with the president of the United States and not expect there to be ramifications for future discussions. The Senate will vote at noon on a bill that, if passed, will reopen the government for three weeks while talks continue.

If he decides to fight again, it should be for a championship because he had two of them for a long time. We pride ourselves in taking a deeper look into the fighter, and understanding what makes them tick.

The shutdown comes after the U.S. Senate failed to pass a budget, despite having the votes of five Democrats on their side. The shutdown is the first since a 16-day closure in October 2013.

Democrats cut a deal with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who agreed to pass a separate immigration bill that would protect Dreamers from being deported.

President Donald Trump on Monday (Jan 22) claimed victory after Democrats agreed to a stopgap deal to reopen USA government offices and end a political crisis in Washington.

There were indications on Sunday that Democratic resolve was beginning to waver, with growing worries that a prolonged shutdown could prove to be an electoral headache for the party just as they have grown confident about their prospects in November.

Pence told US soldiers stationed near the Syrian border on Sunday: "You deserve better".

On Monday afternoon, the Senate voted on the measure that will clear the way for the passage of a short-term spending package to keep the government running until early February.

Republicans have said the immigration debate-the deadline to address the DACA recipients isn't until March-should be separate, and Ryan said congressional Republicans are working with Democrats on that debate.

Murkowski said McConnell was "receptive" to the deal worked out by the moderate senators, but that it was ultimately up to him and Schumer to come to an agreement on funding the government.
