The pieces are beginning to fall into place for Danica Patrick to end her career with the "Danica Double". But now that will be where all of her focus goes, as Patrick has officially secured a ride in the Daytona 500. (AP Photo/Jeffrey Phelps, File) In this August 17, 2012, file photo, Danica Patrick drives during the morning practice session for the NASCAR Nationwide Series auto race, at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Danica Patrick will drive in the Daytona 500 for Premium Motorsports, finalizing the first stage in her plan to compete in the "Danica Double" in 2018.
"I'll be back in GoDaddy green, driving the No. 7 Chevrolet with Tony Jr.in my ear again". Her former crew chief, Tony Eury Jr., will also reunite with Patrick for the effort. "Going with the flow is working out beautifully". Premium Motorsports, which has the charter from Premium's No. 15 auto previous year, has guaranteed her a spot in the Daytona 500 on February 18.
The team will have engineering support from Richard Childress Racing and ECR motors for the event. In that same emotional news conference, Patrick also announced her intent to compete in both the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 this season. "It all makes my last NASCAR race just that much sweeter".
No announcement has been made yet about her possible ride for the Indy 500.
With funding from GoDaddy, her longtime sponsor in IndyCar and NASCAR, she had the funds. Last September, Patrick announced she would part ways with SHR. However, nothing has been confirmed for her yet as far as teams go for that race.
At Daytona, nearly the entire field has the opportunity to be in contention for the victory.
Premium is hardly a top-shelf team, but Daytona is a place where that won't hurt Patrick. "Working with Danica and GoDaddy again at Daytona is going to be fun - when you can do what you love and be in your element ... well, I can tell you, it doesn't get any better".
Patrick has not shown any signs of panic about putting together her two final races, and credited the "positive vibes" that have helped move the project along. All she had to do was find a ride. and for Daytona, now she has. "I'm convinced that good vibes translate into performance, and I'm definitely feeling the good energy with this sponsor and team".
