Pence Heads to the Middle East

Pence will be holding four days of meetings in Egypt, Jordan and Israel. He is expected to leave for Cairo Friday evening.

"The vice president's meetings with the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, and Israel are integral to America's national security and diplomatic objectives", his press secretary Alyssa Farah told the news agency.

The vice president will then travel to Texas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa to support GOP candidates, and will headline various fundraisers for the National Republican Congressional Committee over the next three months, including hosting events for the House branch in Dallas, Cleveland, Detroit, and Naples, Florida.

The House passed a funding measure on Thursday, but whether such legislation will clear the Senate remains unclear.

Pence travels to the Middle East amid heightened tensions in the region following President Donald Trump's recognition last month of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Pakistan turning blind eye to evidence against Hafiz Saeed: MEA
The United States made it clear that Mumbai-attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Speaking to Pakistan's leading Geo TV on Tuesday, Abbasi also referred to Hafiz Saeed as "sahib" or "sir".

That move set off a wave of backlash in the Middle East, particularly in the Palestinian Territories, where protests erupted in opposition to Trump's decision.

Pence will arrive after President Donald Trump made moves on two key issues that have always been top priorities for Pence: designating Jerusalem as Israel's capital and curtailing aid for Palestinians.

Pence will also deliver remarks to Israeli's parliament, or Knesset, where he would "take (the) opportunity to highlight the fact that he's speaking in Jerusalem the Capital of Israel", officials say.

Pence will not travel to Ramallah or meet with officials from the PA, which last month said it would not meet with senior United States officials regarding the peace process. He is also expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
