Zec Efron Is Serial Killer Ted Bundy In Extremely Wicked First Look

So those of you who loved him in his role as singing basketball player Troy in High School Musical are going to be in for a bit of a shock as he plays one of America's most prolific serial killers.

Now, we finally have a first look of Efron as Bundy.

Lily Collins will star as Ted Bundy's long-term girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer in the upcoming biopic, and it's believed that the script, written by Michael Werwie, will explore the crimes of the killer through the eyes of Ted's girlfriend. Efron took to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes look of himself in character as Bundy.

Bundy later confessed to 30 homicides committed in seven states - but not before escaping prison, twice - though the real number of victims is still unknown. Bundy and Kloepfer met in 1969 and dated throughout the '70s and even after his initial capture in 1975.

Joe Berlinger, who is the director on the project, wrote on Instagram that filming begins Thursday. He received three death sentences for his crimes, dying in the electric chair in 1989. This will mark Berlinger's first return to the non-documentary filmmaking since 2000's Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, a movie that's actually a lot better than it gets credit for being, but nonetheless turned Berlinger off feature filmmaking for a while.

The movie - titled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile - also stars Lily Collins and John Malkovich.

The film is expected to be released by the end of 2018.
