Official urges flu shots after New Canaan 4th-grader's death


A 10-year-old New Canaan boy died suddenly over the weekend, according to the superintendent of schools, and the school community is coming together this morning.

Here's where you can get vaccinatedNico Mallozzi, a fourth grader at West School in New Caanan, was at a hockey tournament in NY but didn't play because he felt sick. He was rushed to a hospital in the Catskills, where he died.

West Elementary in New Canaan brought in grief counselors Tuesday following the death of Nico Mallozzi, a fourth-grader who delivered the school's afternoon announcements.

The schools are planning a gathering at West School Monday from 10 noon to offer support for students and parents and "love".

A GoFundMe page was set up for the family and can be found here. However, Nico did not play any games with his team, the Connecticut Roughriders Hockey Club.

Nico passed away after leaving a hockey tournament early this past weekend because he had been feeling unwell, district officials have said. The team created a memorial fund for Nico's family.

"One of Nico's coaches described him best: Nico's sly little smile and charm have captivated, entertained and kept us on our toes", she said.
