Winter Storm Watch issued for central Indiana

Winter Storm Warnings are issued when forecasters are confident that there will be significant amounts of snow, sleet, and ice associated with the forecasted storm.

Days two through seven - Wednesday through Monday a winter storm watch is in effect late Wednesday night through Thursday. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations up to a quarter inch possible.* WHERE.Portions of southern IN and central Kentucky, roughly along and west of the I-65 corridor.* WHEN.From Friday morning through late Friday night.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS.Reduced visibilities, especially during the most intense snow. The southern counties could see about half an inch of snow.

The weather service warns that plummeting temperatures will cause wet surfaces to freeze quickly as the temperatures drop into the 20s and teens Thursday morning, causing icing on surfaces beneath the snow.

KYTC said pre-treating highways with brine will be ineffective due to expected rainfall prior to the wintry mix.

A winter-storm watch and high-wind watch will be in effect in mountain areas through late Tuesday night. Ice accumulation may reach a quarter-inch in the region and up to a half inch in some areas (see graphic).

A blustery northwest wind may have gusts as high as 25 miles per hour adding to the bite of the plummeting air temperatures. "Freezing rain will fall for a few hours then there will be snow on top".
