Reuben Foster of the SF 49ers arrested in Tuscaloosa

Foster was charged with second-degree marijuana possession in Tuscaloosa, home of his alma mater, the University of Alabama.

He was released from jail on a $2,500 bond.

California legalized recreational marijuana on January 1.

The 49ers released the following statement Friday night: "The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Reuben Foster and we are now gathering all relevant facts".

A second-degree marijuana possession charge is considered a Class A misdemeanor in Alabama.

Foster started all 10 games he played in this season and posted 72 tackles.

Foster entered the Alabama locker room following its 24-6 win against Clemson in this season's Sugar Bowl, much to the delight of his former defensive teammates, who mobbed him upon his arrival.

Still, the 49ers drafted Foster with the 31st pick in the draft. His urine sample was found to be diluted, which is against the league's drug-testing rules.
