Mets, Adrian Gonzalez agree to deal

In those 71 games, Gonzalez batted.242/.287/.355 with three home runs and 30 RBIs. Gonzalez can afford to take less money for a better situation since he's still being paid $22.357 million by the Braves for 2018. He hadn't experienced a stretch that poor since his first two Major League Baseball seasons when he came up as a member of the Texas Rangers.

On Dec. 16, Gonzalez was traded by the Dodger to the Braves in a five-player deal that helped the Dodgers work toward getting under the 2018 luxury tax threshold.

Gonzalez will be a free agent after the upcoming season.

He has been a star and pivotal part of teams through much of his 14-year career but was limited by injury to 71 games last season and was not part of the Dodgers' run to Game 7 of the World Series.

This is where the Mets came in.

The Mets are bringing in big-name competition for first baseman Dominic Smith, a former first-round pick who is coming off a disappointing rookie season.

African Ambassadors to United Nations condemn Trump over 'shithole' comment
Trump tweeted Friday morning: " The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used ". Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a briefing that no deal had been reached yet.

Gonzalez, who will be 36 next season, would be a cheap stopgap who would not prevent Smith, one of the Mets' top prospects, from taking over at first base in the team's eyes. In 49 games, the 22-year-old Smith batted just.198 with nine home runs and 26 RBI.

The #Mets now have chose to sign 1B Adrian Gonzalez pending a physical.

USA Today first reported the agreement between Gonzalez and the Mets.

How do you follow up signing Jay Bruce at a bargain? A four-time Gold Glove Award-winner, his defense also suffered, as he posted a minus-5.6 UZR/150 and minus-two DRS.

If he struggles, then his salary is easily releasable and the Mets would have to deal with a platoon of Smith, Wilmer Flores and even Bruce at first base for the rest of the season.
