Danault lay on the ice for several minutes before being taken away on a stretcher.

Danault was moving and speaking to the medical staff before he was stretchered off the ice. Chara, who possesses one of the hardest shots in the league, blasted one from the blue line, hitting Danault, who was standing at the top of the faceoff circle, on the right side of his head off his helmet. While the medical staff brought out a gurney, officials chose to suspend the remainder of the period and play it after the intermission.

Alex Galchenyuk scored his 100th career goal while Max Pacioretty, Nicolas Deslauriers scored in regulation time for Montreal (18-20-5).

The Canadiens issued a statement during the third period that said: "Danault suffered a head injury".

After the game, Montreal coach Claude Julien said Danault is expected to remain in the hospital overnight and will be re-evaluated Sunday.?
