In his statement, Chidambaram said nothing was found in the searches, "the panchnamas speak for themselves".

The ED also issued fresh summons to Karti, and has asked him to appear before it on 16 January, Zee News reported.

"There are obviously no proceeds of crime and the ED has no jurisdiction under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA)", he added.

The law enforcement agency has alleged that Karti received money from Peter and Indrani Mukerjea owned INX media so as to avoid the tax probe against it.

During the filing of the report, the raid was on-going.

"There is no FIR in respect of a scheduled crime registered by any police or agency including the CBI", Mr P. Chidambaram said.

Apart from this, his son, Karti Chidambaram's house and office in Chennai and Delhi were searched by the Enforcement Directorate.

As many as nine premises in Chennai and the residence of Karti's father, former Congress leader P Chidambaram, in Delhi were searched by the agency in the raids. "Not surprised by the malicious vendetta being unleashed against senior Congress leaders including P Chidambaram and his son". Karti Chidambaram is accused of facilitating bribes in the Aircel-Maxis transaction.

ED officials also searched at least eight other premises in a coordinated operation that began early morning on Saturday. Nothing was found, nothing was seized.

The ED raids in Chennai have concluded. "Our resolve to raise people's issues and hold the government and Prime Minister accountable on policy and promises become stronger with such spiteful and hostile onslaught to suppress the voice of Opposition", Surjewala said. ED had filed a chargesheet against Karti in the Aircel-Maxis case where it had alleged that Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd (ASCPL), controlled by Karti, had received a payment of Rs 26 lakh from ATVL (the company that sold equity shares of Aircel Ltd to Malaysian company Maxis).
