Zuma's second presidential term ends in 2019, but Ramaphosa could push for an earlier resignation. One of the demands is rumoured to be that Dlamini Zuma would succeed him as president.

Magashule explained that Zuma will attend the rally in his capacity as an ex officio member of the NEC.

"The NEC was emphatic that we must urgently implement the resolution to pursue expropriation of land without compensation with due regard to safeguarding and growing the agricultural sector and ensuring food security‚" Magashule said.

Deputy secretary-general Jesse Duarte said the ANC hopes the event will be a success but will not say how many people are expected.
