Panthers announce Norv Turner as new offensive coordinator

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - There will be a Turner family reunion in Charlotte.

Turner got his start in the National Football League as the wide receivers coach for the Los Angeles Rams in 1985. The person spoke to The Associated Press Thursday on condition of anonymity because the team does not discuss potential coaching candidates.

Turner interviewed with the Panthers last week and will take over for Mike Shula, who was sacked on Tuesday.

A three-time former head coach and OC for the Cowboys, Chargers, Dolphins, 49ers, Browns and Vikings, Turner said in June 2017 he wanted to return to coaching.

Previously, Turner also served as offensive coordinator for Dallas (1991-93), San Diego (2001), Miami (2002-03), San Francisco (2006) and Cleveland (2013).

Former NFL head coach and veteran assistant Norv Turner has agreed in principle to join the Carolina Panthers as their new offensive coordinator.

Finally, Credit Suisse Group reaffirmed an "outperform" rating on shares of Bodycote in a report on Monday, November 20th. The shares were acquired at an average cost of GBX 30 ($0.41) per share, for a total transaction of £50,700 ($68,755.09).

The announcement comes just days after the Panthers removed Mike Shula from the position. Rivera is looking for the Turners to help with Cam Newton's development. Turner was the head coach from 2007-2012 and Rivera served as the linebackers coach in 2007 and defensive coordinator from 2008-2010 before joining the Panthers.

As Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Tuesday, Turner was head coach Ron Rivera's initial target when he chose to fire previous coordinator Mike Shula.

He last worked with the Minnesota Vikings in 2016, but that ended abruptly with Turner resigning after seven games with the offense ranked 31st in the league. He stayed there until 1991, when he moved on to the Dallas Cowboys to become Jimmy Johnson's offensive coordinator.

The Panthers' offense went from being ranked 11th in yards and No. 1 in points in 2015 to 19th and 15th in 2016, and 19th and 12th this season. Newton, 28, is coming off his worst two seasons in terms of passer rating.

"Nov has coached Hall of Famers, he's set a lot of people on the career paths that they've had", said head coach Ron Rivera. Most recently, he worked with Teddy Bridgewater in Minnesota.
