Detective Pikachu Release Date For 3DS Announced Alongside New, Huge Amiibo

The release of Detective Pikachu in the West was bound to happen eventually, as the game is being adapted into a major Hollywood movie, starring Ryan Reynolds as the electric rat.

The move marks another step in the recent resurgence of Pokemon that began with Pokemon Go's release in 2016. According to the main Pokemon website, this Pikachu talks tough, loves coffee, and wants to solve mysteries so that he can become a great detective. The goal of the game is to help out a boy named Tim find his father.

With the game expanding its horizons, the Pokemon Company is also creating a special Detective Pikachu Amiibo for use with the game. At just under 14 centimeters tall, it's nearly double the size of the Super Smash Bros.-edition Pikachu Amiibo.

The 3DS game Detective Pikachu is coming to the West in March, The Pokemon Company said today, and with it comes a giant Amiibo that's almost double the size of a standard Pikachu. I'm nearly more excited for the Amiibo than the game.

Of course, you also play as a teenager, Tim, slowly peeling back the layers of a veritable, conspiratorial onion of Rhyme City in Detective Pikachu, with one character explicitly requesting you stay out of police business.
