Bear attacks Florida man letting his dog out

A man says he was letting his dog outside in Southwest Florida when a large bear attacked him.

Andrew Meunier say around 11:00 p.m. he chose to let his small dog out of his apartment.

He escaped the bear and managed to get back into his house through the front door. "It wasn't until I got back inside that I looked down on my hand and saw blood all over", said Meunier.

"I've seen them before, just never 2 feet away, swinging at me", he said.

Andrew Meunier left his home to take his dog out when he realised the one-metre tall bear was at his side.

The bear attacked Meunier, swiping his face with its paw. He received forty-one stitches at a local hospital. Animal Control agents declared that this is the first case of bear mauling in that area.

"I don't care if this scars". Since then, two bear traps have been set up along the sprawling Amberton Townhomes complex.

Going forward, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission will be setting up bear traps and conducting searches for the bears throughout the area of Dream Catcher Circle in Naples. After taking a few paces, Meunier suddenly turned around only to find himself face-to-face with a pissed off bear.

Meunier posted a warning to followers on Facebook, "I just wanted to let people around here know to be careful so this didn't happen to them".
