It may be recalled that Najeeb Ahmed, a JNU student, went missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel of the university on October 15, 2016 following a scuffle with some other students, allegedly affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the previous night. After missing report, the management has sent out a notice asking anyone to notify the security staff of any known whereabouts. In the meantime, Jain's brother tried calling him, but his phone went unanswered.
CCTV footage showed that Jain had walked out of the east gate and probably boarded a vehicle. University sources say that Jain worked under professor Shweta Saran to complete his PhD, which he has been pursuing since 2012. JNU administration said that Jain was not a registered student of the varsity. "I was informed about the case by the guide that the student has gone missing".
