Chelsea stuttered on the pitch against Championship opponents but off it Antonio Conte delivered a devastating attack on Jose Mourinho, clearly stung that his Manchester United counterpart had raised the suspension which Conte served in Italy before being cleared of allegations relating to match-fixing.
The Blues boss could not hide his contempt for Mourinho after the London club's goalless draw with Norwich in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday, 6 January, using most of the post-match press conference to hit out against the United manager.
Conte was also asked to respond to Mourinho's comments on Friday evening after the United manager made a passing reference to the Italian's ban for match-fixing.
"Everybody knows, I don't need the Chelsea manager to say, that I made mistakes in the past and I will make in the future, hopefully".
"What I was trying to say that I behaved bad a few times but in this moment I control myself better".
I celebrated goals running 50 metres, I celebrated goals sliding on my knees, celebrations jumping in the crowd. "So wrong question and obviously a strong answer and I don't blame". "That never happened to me and will never happen".
United next host Chelsea on February 25.

Brooklyn Nets lose tough one in overtime to Toronto Raptors
Despite the frustration, this and the game against Boston showed that the Nets can really hang with the best teams in the league. Updating a previous report, Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry (tailbone, back) will not play on Tuesday against the Miami Heat .
Jaguars vs. Steelers: 3 defensive keys to victory
The Jaguars picked up their fifth-year option in Bortles' rookie contract, at a salary of more than $19 million, for next season. Jacksonville has done a good job of mixing up looks and using Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue from different launching points.
According to Sky Sports, Andy said: "The reason why Mourinho can not let anything lie is that, even with his incredible record - 25 trophies - he thinks he's underappreciated, undervalued and people do not acknowledge how great a manager he's been".
The Premier League rivals have been involved in back-and-forth verbal sparring in recent days after it was suggested Mourinho had aimed a dig at Conte when he said he prefers to act in a "mature" manner on the touchline, rather than "crazy" or like a "clown".
"Maybe, sometimes, I think that someone forgets what's said in the past, which is his behaviour".
Seemingly searching for the right words in English, Conte used the term "demenza senile" in his native tongue when referring to Mourinho.
'I think in the last period hes suffering from a bit of amnesia.
"If I saw a well-organised team normally when I spoke about another coach it is only to make compliments, otherwise I stay silent, but in this situation you must have respect and I think I do this".
