A jubilant A.S. Kiran Kumar, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), announced that the Cartosat-2 satellite, the seventh in the series, and a nanosatellite and 28 commercial payloads were successfully injected into orbit by the PSLV C-40, in the space of 17 minutes after liftoff.
Speaking after the success of the PSLV launch, AS Kiran, outgoing Chairman of ISRO said, "During the launch past year, we had problem". The Cartosat-2 has been created to stay in its orbit for five years. Last June, India launched its heaviest-ever rocket it hopes will eventually be able to carry astronauts into space, a feat only Russian Federation, the United States and China have achieved.
The doomed August 31 mission placed India's IRNSS 1H navigation satellite into orbit, but the PSLV's payload fairing - the shroud created to protect the spacecraft during the first few minutes of flight - failed to jettison soon after liftoff.
Having placed more than 250 satellites in orbits through its workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), success has become a routine for Isro.
The 44.4-metre tall Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C40) roared into a clear sky after a flawless lift-off at 9.29 am following a 28-hour countdown.

"During the last PSLV launch we had problems, today what has happened proves that the problem was properly addressed and rectified. We are happy to give this new year gift to the country". The total weight of the satellites carried onboard the PSLV-C40 is close to 1,323 kg. As per a report by Business Standard, the rocket carries the Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation along with 30 co-passenger satellites.
The four stage PSLV-C40 stood 44.4 metres tall and weighed about 320 tonne.
The 28 worldwide customer satellites are being launched as part of the commercial arrangements between ISRO and its commercial arm "Antrix Corporation Ltd".
"ISRO is starting 2018 with the successful launch. all customer satellites (besides Cartosat and nanosat) released and the microast after one hour". The Cartosat-2 series would orbit around the Earth for five years.
