Though we're not sure whether Feige will push hard enough for Natasha's standalone, we're really hoping that the film gets green lit and lands a spot before the end of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Variety's sources, the whole idea is "still very early development" and the film doesn't yet have a greenlight. However what Marvel has reportedly done is look into hiring writers for the movie, in which allegedly Jac Schaeffer has been chosen to take on the movie's script. "She's a lead Avenger and has fantastic stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise". This means Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will likely wait to see what Schaeffer turns in before moving ahead.

As reported by Variety, Marvel is making some big moves behind the scenes of the Black Widow standalone film starring Scarlett Johansson, the most prominent of which is tapping Black List screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to pen the movie's script. Marvel, however, hasn't commented on any of these rumors and no official plans for a "Black Widow" movie have been made. Given the character's rise in popularity with mainstream audiences since debuting in Iron Man 2 it wouldn't be completely surprising to learn that a Black Widow film is on the agenda. All that's confirmed is a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, out in the USA 5 July 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, rumoured for 2020.

Historically, Hollywood executives were sexist and claimed that female superhero movies won't make a lot of money. Sadly though, the character was never the main lead previously as she only served in ensemble casts. That title will go to Captain Marvel, scheduled for USA release 8 March 2019.
