The original Game Boy looks set to make a comeback.
The market for retro gaming hardware has been around for ages, but no one knew quite how massive it could be until Nintendo came out with the NES Classic Edition in 2016. It probably won't be called the Ultra Game Boy (Nintendo licensing right and all) and it won't include any built-in games - that's right, you'll need to dust off those old cartridges or head over to eBay to start building your library.
Nintendo is not re-releasing its iconic Game Boy console-not yet, anyway. It has an aluminum housing and - in addition to the original volume and contrast dials - it has a third dial to adjust the backlit LCD display. There will also be an option to turn off the backlight for a more authentic Game Boy experience.
Hyperkin wants to have this product on shelves by the end of summer, with a price point south of $100.
Nintendo has discovered that remaking its old consoles is a licence to print money but has presumably left the Game Boy in the "to do" pile to be tackled once the company finishes counting all its Switch money. It also has stereo speakers - which may feel like overkill for a device that can only run mono games but is apparently aimed at chiptune musicians.

B&O also announced AirPlay 2 support is coming to 10 devices including the Beoplay M3 , M5 and A9 mk2 and Beosound range. It has impressive stereo speakers of its own, tuned by Meridian Audio, but it stands out with an 8 touchscreen.
Gizmodo state "Hyperkin is doing the lord's work with the Ultra Game Boy". Nintendo followed it up with the SNES Classic Edition in 2017, and despite having significantly more stock, still managed to sell out at virtually every retailer.
According to Gizmodo, the Ultra Game Boy will be a handheld console that will be able to play original Game Boy cartridges, but with some improvements.
Instead, this is simply the best possible version of the Game Boy you'll ever put your hands on.
It charges via USB, with a battery that lasts six hours, and is housed in an aluminium casing - a significant upgrade on the original Game Boy's plastic shell.
